A Reclaimed Timber Look, Without the Compromise
Kahrs Oak Maggiore is designed to capture the look and feel of reclaimed wood, but without the instability and unpredictability that often comes with genuine reclaimed boards.
The black-and-tan colour variation, combined with natural knots, cracks and markings, gives the floor a deeply authentic, time-worn appearance. Every board is unique, creating a floor that feels genuinely organic rather than manufactured.
From our experience, this is one of the closest you can get to a reclaimed aesthetic in a modern engineered floor — but with all the benefits of contemporary construction.
Extreme Rustic Character (By Design)
This is an expressive-grade oak floor, which means it is intentionally full of variation.
- Large knots and natural cracks
- Strong tonal contrast from light to dark brown
- Visible sapwood and natural imperfections
- These are not flaws — they are what give the floor its identity. Kahrs describes the look as “extremely rustic”, and that is exactly what you get.
If you want a clean, uniform floor, this is not the product for you. But if you want something with depth, movement and personality, it is exceptional.
Handcrafted Surface Detailing
What really elevates Oak Maggiore is the level of surface refinement.
Each board is:
- Hand-scraped to create a worn, aged effect
- Brushed to enhance the natural grain
- Four-sided bevelled for a defined plank look
- This combination of treatments gives the floor a genuinely tactile surface, not just a visual one. The hand-scraping in particular adds depth and irregularity, reinforcing that reclaimed timber feel.
In our opinion, this is where Kährs really justifies its premium positioning — the detailing is simply on another level compared to most engineered flooring.
Premium Engineered Construction
Beneath the surface, Oak Maggiore is built using Kährs’ 3-layer engineered construction, designed for long-term stability and performance.
- Solid oak wear layer (approx. 3.5mm)
- Stable pine/spruce core
- Reduced movement compared to solid wood
- This means the floor is far more resistant to changes in temperature and humidity, making it suitable for modern homes and underfloor heating systems.
It also features the Woodloc® 5G locking system, allowing for a strong, precise fit and easier installation.
Oil Finish for a Natural Look
The floor is finished with a natural oil, which enhances the depth of colour and highlights the grain.
Unlike lacquered floors, an oiled finish:
- Gives a more natural, matte appearance
- Allows the wood to breathe
- Can be maintained and repaired more easily over time
- We always recommend applying an additional coat of maintenance oil after installation to protect the surface and bring out the full richness of the timber.
Designed to Age Beautifully
One of the key strengths of Oak Maggiore is how it develops over time.
Because of its rustic grading and textured surface:
- Small marks and wear blend into the design
- The floor gains character rather than losing it
- The appearance softens and matures naturally
- This is a floor that looks better after a few years than it does on day one — which is exactly what you want from a product inspired by aged timber.
Where It Works Best
Kahrs Oak Maggiore works particularly well in:
- Large open-plan living spaces
- Period properties and character homes
- Barn conversions and rustic interiors
- Feature rooms where the floor is a focal point
- The wide 190mm planks and long board lengths (1900mm) help create a strong visual impact, especially in larger rooms.
